He’s got your back

Jesus said to the crowd:
"They will seize and persecute you,
they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons,
and they will have you led before kings and governors
because of my name.
It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.

The gospel today is very encouraging. I feel Jesus' assurance, I feel that "He's got my back" as long as I’m working for him. Another incentive for working for Him. Astig. =)

Jesus reminds us that human efforts are not enough. Yes, he warns us that when we work for him, things will not always be smooth sailing. Not preparing beforehand means not to just be idle and depend on him, but it's more of an attitude we need to have, to just be still, trust in Him, and spend time in prayer instead of "working" on our defense. It's more important to continuously get to know Him than prepare in a worldly sense.. As we spend time with Him, we He will build our faith and we get stronger spiritually. Then we can have that expectant faith that when the time comes, he will fulfil his promise and will take care of us.

May we be conscious not to be like King Belshazzar in the first reading, who lost focus on God and worshipped other gods. May we be one with the psalmist and give glory and eternal praise to our one true God in everything we do, all the time.

God bless!
