Ouchie?

The WORD today (See http://usccb.org/bible/readings/060313.cfm) reminds me how painful the truth can be.

Here in the Philippines, we have a saying that goes “Bato bato sa langit, ang tamaan wag magalit” or some word it as “Bato bato sa langit, ang tamaan, guilty.” Sometimes, the truth hurts, especially when the truth makes us realize we should change our ways.

In the gospel, Jesus told the parable referring to the chief priests, scribes and elders. He told them and made them realize that he knew what was in their hearts, and what they are doing to Jesus. He was not concerned about keeping the “peace” with these influential people of those times, nor of being in good terms with them. Jesus was determined to preach the kingdom of God at all cost – even his life.

How about us? What instances in life do we feel like the Pharisees? What times have we experienced “pain”, knowing that we are guilty of something God does not approve of? How many times have we been hit and rebuked with God’s messages?

God loves us – we all know that. But it does not mean he will tolerate everything we are doing. That is not love. He may sometimes allow things to happen, things that may hurt us, because he knows that it may be the way he can get our attention. May we be sensitive enough to recognize God’s ways of reminding us, and be humble enough to admit and repent.

Father God,
Thank you for today. Thank you for another weekend. Thank you for another week. Lord, I pray that as I start this week, I may be more sensitive to you. May I hear your voice and listen to it, no matter how painful it may be, and change my ways, so I won’t have to experience unnecessary pain just for you to get my attention. Amen.

Blessed week!

In Christ,
-g-
