Give Love

Sharing with you an excerpts from today’s gospel

Jesus said to his disciples:
"This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
This I command you: love one another

Yesterday, we saw how much Jesus loved us, as he experienced the love of God the Father (See related reflection: God loves you http://mysimplereflection.blogspot.com/2012/05/god-loves-you.html)

Today, we are asked to give back that love, not only to God, but to other people as well. Today we are commanded to act and live our faith, live our love.

They say that actions speak louder than words, and in the case of love, that is true. Love is easier said than done. It is so easy to say “Lord I love you”. It is easy to say to other people, “I love you with the love of God”. But can we do it? Can we live it? Can we walk the talk?

Faith without works (or actions) is dead (James 2:17 http://bible.cc/james/2-17.htm). God wants us to live our faith in Him. Hindi pwedeng sinasabi mo lang na may faith ka kay God. We should live our lives based on that faith. The same is true with love. In today’s gospel, Jesus commands us to love one another. Jesus says that the greatest commandment is to love God above all, second is to “love you neighbour as yourself” (Mt 22:39 http://bible.cc/matthew/22-39.htm) Yes, we should live out this love. We are commanded to.

How do we live out this love? Who do we love?

It is easy to love those who are lovable. Our family and friends who are good to us. Well, if we don’t show them we love them, better start now! For those who are already doing this, take it to the next level. Take it to CHRIST’s level. Love your enemies (Mt 5:44 http://bible.cc/matthew/5-44.htm) Love those who are unlovable. Love those who irritate you. love those who hurt you. Love those who cut you into traffic. Love those who say nasty things about you. You cannot do this on your own, only GOD can help you love the way he does. And in so doing, in allowing God to love through you, you will feel God’s love as he lets his love flow through you.

Today, think of one specific person that’s unlovable. Maybe someone you know, maybe a stranger. Look for that one person, and allow God to use you to make his love alive to that person. Instead of cursing and getting mad, pray for the driver who cuts you in traffic. Instead of answering back, be silent, be kind, and pray for the person who insults you or who says bad things about you. Offer a sincere smile to that annoying person in the office and greet him/her a good day. Not only them, but most importantly, you would feel God’s love working through you, and will fulfil Christ’s commandment.

Game na!

Have a blessed Friday!

In Christ,
-g-
