Blessed Servant

The WORD today (see http://usccb.org/bible/readings/090112.cfm) reminds us that if we respond to God’s call and do our part, we will be blessed.

The psalmist says: Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own

In the first reading, we see God choosing us, not looking at our earthly credentials, power or human wisdom. God calls everyone, but not everyone are sensitive enough to hear. Among those who hear, not everyone are willing to respond and act. However, God makes good use of whoever responds to him. He uses us to work great things for Him – we who choose to respond and have a heart for Him. In doing great things for God, we should always be reminded not to be proud of anything, but boast in the Lord, giving back all the praise and glory to Him.

In the gospel, we see an illustration of this. God gave all of us something. Some probably more than others. He gave us time, talent and treasure in different amounts. These things are not for us alone, not to be hidden from the world. God gave us these things to be shared to others, to be multiplied to bless others, to glorify God. As we can see, those who gave much, received much as well. IF we are generous with whatever God is giving us, knowing that it is not ours in the first place, God will continue to bless us. God cannot be ou given.

Am I generous with my time, talent and treasure? Am I sensitive and listen to God’s call? Do I respond and act on it? Do I always give God the glory, or am I working to receive human affirmation and glorification? What prevents me from doing God’s work, from acting on his call? What prevents me from sharing my blessings from God?

Father God,
Thank you for today. Thank you for another weekend. Lord, I thank you for the message. I pray that not only may I be extra sensitive to you, but may I be willing to act and respond to your call. Help me be generous with everything you have given me, and as I reap the rewards of serving you, may I always give you back all the honor and glory. Amen.

Have a blessed day!

In Christ,
-g-
