The WORD
today (see http://usccb.org/bible/readings/060616.cfm)
reminds me that God wants us to have faith in him, and trust him no
matter what.
In
the first reading we see Elijah. He is one of the prophets I really like. He is
bold in his faith, and he was used by God mightily and intensely in different
situations. simply because he had faith in God. And he trusted in God, no
matter what the situation is.
Having faith
and trust in God is very important, especially when the situation seems to be
impossible.
In
the first reading, Elijah was bold to go to the king and proclaim God. And he
trusted in God when he was told to go somewhere, and was told that ravens will
bring him food and a stream will give him water. He obeyed and he had faith in
God. And thats what happened. God took care of Him.
In
our lives, some things does not seem to make sense. Sometimes God is seemingly asking us crazy
things. Mga parang imposibleng mangyari na mga bagay.
But we should take inspiration from Elijah. He had faith in God. He trusted in
God. No matter what the situation is. And God did not fail him.
God rewards
genuine faith and trust.
May
we be inspired to work on our faith and trust in God, and pray for an increase
of these in our lives.
What
are the challenges I face in life? Do I pray to God to help me? Do i trust what
he tells me to do, especially when it does not seem to make sense? Do I have
faith in his power and his word? What prevents me from having complete faith
and trust in God?
Father God,
Thank you for
today. Thank you for another day to live. Thank you for another week. Thank you
for a great reminder as I start my week. Lord, sorry for the times I let the
situation limit you. Sorry for not having enough faith and trust in you. Sorry
for letting the world overwhelm me. Help me be like Elijah. Help me have that
much faith and trust in you, especially during desperate situations. Increase
my faith. Increase my trust. And as you do, use me to bring glory to your name.
Amen.

Reading 1 1 Kgs 17:1-6
Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab:
“As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve,
during these years there shall be no dew or rain except at my word.”
The LORD then said to Elijah:
“Leave here, go east
and hide in the Wadi Cherith, east of the Jordan.
You shall drink of the stream,
and I have commanded ravens to feed you there.”
So he left and did as the LORD had commanded.
He went and remained by the Wadi Cherith, east of the Jordan.
Ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning,
and bread and meat in the evening,
and he drank from the stream.
“As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve,

The LORD then said to Elijah:

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
