The WORD today (see http://usccb.org/bible/readings/091915.cfm) reminds me that we should persevere in doing God’s work.
A lot of us do not want to wait. That is why we want instant things. there are a lot of instant food nowadays. Just add how water and you can eat already. People do not want to go through the old process and wait. People want things fast, that is why in delivery services there is a guarantee – have your delivery in 30 minutes or less for food, and one day shipping for shopping and other services. We have gotten used to fast things in life, and it has affected us.
However, in God’s kingdom, this is not the case. In God’s kingdom, nothing worthwhile and important comes fast and easy.
In the gospel, Jesus told and explained the parable to his disciples. Yes, there were a lot of unproductive soil. However, the good soil that bore fruits did not have it easy either. Jesus said that we also need perseverance to bear fruit. Being good and doing God’s work will not guarantee instant results. Yes, Jesus promises that we will have rewards and will be successful in doing God’s work, but it won’t come easy. There will be challenges, there will be opposition, and we need to persevere and be loyal to Him if we want to bear much fruit.
Perseverance in doing good tells God we are serious in doing His work.
It is easy do to new things. It is fun when you learn new things, when you experience new things, when you do things with friends. But that is not it. Real service requires perseverance. Like the different soils, we will not bear fruit if we do not persevere. If we receive God’s word and do his work, but let worries, concerns, fears and things of this world affect us, then we will not bear good fruit. We need to persevere, to focus on God, to continue doing His work despite all the challenges if we want to bear good fruit for Him.
May we be inspired and reminded of the need for perseverance in proclaiming God’s kingdom.
Father God,
Thank you for today. Thank you for another day to live. thank you for another weekend. Thank you for the reminder. Lord, I am sorry for the times I do not persevere in doing good, in doing your work. Sorry for not focusing on you, and stopping when service becomes hard. Sorry for letting other things distract me. Help me focus on you. help me persevere and continue to do your work. May I never get distracted by the enemy in doing your work on earth, and may my actions bear good fruit for your kingdom. Amen.

Some seed fell on rocky ground, and when it grew,
it withered for lack of moisture.
Some seed fell among thorns,
and the thorns grew with it and choked it.
And some seed fell on good soil, and when it grew,
it produced fruit a hundredfold.”
After saying this, he called out,
“Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.”
Then his disciples asked him
what the meaning of this parable might be.
He answered,
“Knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of God
has been granted to you;
but to the rest, they are made known through parables
so that they may look but not see, and hear but not understand.
“This is the meaning of the parable.
The seed is the word of God.
Those on the path are the ones who have heard,
but the Devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts
that they may not believe and be saved.
Those on rocky ground are the ones who, when they hear,
receive the word with joy, but they have no root;
they believe only for a time and fall away in time of temptation.
As for the seed that fell among thorns,
they are the ones who have heard, but as they go along,
they are choked by the anxieties and riches and pleasures of life,
and they fail to produce mature fruit.
But as for the seed that fell on rich soil,
they are the ones who, when they have heard the word,
embrace it with a generous and good heart,
