The WORD today (See http://usccb.org/bible/readings/031914.cfm) reminds me that we can be a silent worker for God's kingdom.
Today is the feast of St Joseph, husband of Mother Mary and earthly father of Jesus. Not much is written about Him, except the gospel today. He was a silent and righteous man, but we know he played an important role as well. We also see his faith when he obeyed God's message for him through a dream, though what God was asking him to do was different from his plans.
God wants us to be workers for Him, and it does not matter if we are working silently for him. He does not need us to do great and mighty things for Him. He does not need us to be loud as we tell what we do for him. We can be silent workers, happy to be doing God's work, not needing praise, recognition or affirmation, knowing that the only one who needs to know sees what we do.
Do I serve God? In what way? Do i long for praise, affirmation and attention as I work for God? Am I willing to work silently, even if no one notices?
Father God,
Thank you for today. Thank you for another day to live. Thank you for St Joseph that serves as an example on how to serve silently. Give me a heart that would be willing to serve you in the background, not needing and wanting affirmation, acknowledgement and praise. Amen.
