The WORD today (see http://usccb.org/bible/readings/120913.cfm) reminds me how blessed Mama Mary is, and how blessed we are for having her as our spiritual mother.
As we celebrate the feast of Mama Mary’s Immaculate Conception, the first reading reminds us of the cause of Original Sin. Adam and Eve disobeyed God. However, the feast today reminds me how special and blessed Mama Mary is. Being immaculately conceived, she has the singular privilege of being free from original sin from the moment of her conception. Fitting for the earthly mother of Jesus Christ.
In the gospel, we see how special she is as the Angel greeted her – “Hail, full of grace!” Indeed, she is full of God’s grace even before she answered yes to being the earthly mother of Jesus, even before she suffered the pains of Jesus.
We may not have the same privilege as Mama Mary, but we should be inspired by her. May she always have a special place in our hearts, as our spiritual mother. Like her, may we do our best to always live in the light of God, remaining in God’s grace as we live our lives, so that when God calls us to do something, no matter how big or small, we may also respond like her – “I am the handmaid of the Lord, may it be done to me according to your word”
Father God,
Thank you for today. Thank you for giving us Mama Mary to be our spiritual mother. May we always be inspired by her love for you, by her lifestyle, by her humility, by her service. As we hear mass today, may we be sensitive as well to the ways you are calling us to serve you, and like Mama Mary, may we respond with humble obedience. Amen.
Blessed day!
In Christ,
-g-
